flat pattern final 3
Spent the last few days drafting and mocking up a muslin. If I knew how hard it was to sew a pointy shape into a v-shape, I wouldn't have designed FOUR of them into the darn thing.
Ah well. I really like how the stripe curves around the side to the back. It looks pretty neat with the strong contrast too. I was thinking of black noil (rough texture) with a black charmeuse stripe (satin/shiny), but black noil w/ white noil stripe might be nice too. Which way should I go ... subtle or strong?
(lots of pics scattered throughout my flickr account, titled "party dress *")
It needs a good bit of adjusting from the original sloper shape so that I can wear it.
- waist is 1-2" too small, alas
- the small of my back curves more (biggest pain to adjust with the band)
- the point in the back goes 2 inches lower than I'd wanted
- the neckline is too high
- need to take in shoulder
But otherwise, it looks surprisingly good for something I totally made up.

Another go at a final project design. I wasn't really liking the bodice detail in either of the previous sketches, especially after I tried to design a 1/4 scale pattern. This one I like...
I'm thinking black silk noil (raw silk) for the main body of the dress, with black silk charmeuse detailing at the waist front/back and the large back godet. Small godets in the front help make the skirt fuller. Maybe some black silk chiffon detail at the neck and bottom hem.
Using silk noil will be a LOT more affordable -- only $4 a yard :) vs. the $12 for charmeuse. I think this dress will take about 5-6 yards of fabric total.

Which should I design/make for my flat pattern final project?
One stripe in front on bodice, w/ one in back bodice.
Or two stripes in front with wide waistband on skirt, and one stripe in back skirt?
drafting class
Remember how, in college, you'd settle down after lunch to work on a problem set due the next day, and realize that you really should have started working on it the day it was assigned? And then, remember being really depressed watching the sun rise, because you were still working on it, and it was due in 3 hours, and you couldn't figure out how to solve the last problem?
Haha. I don't miss that at all.
Anyway, here's some last minute homework I did today.
We had to start with the sloper, create a sleeve pattern, and sew it out of fabric.
