RECORDING on and READING from a MINIDISC:

this is a minidisc, called MD for short. it was invented by sony as an audio storage format much like the compact disc. although less than half the size of a CD, it holds just as much music, due to a 5:1 compression algorithm. this format was intended to replace the cassette tape and is quite popular in asia and europe.
